With only a handful of chart weeks left in the year, the music industry’s most impactful trends of 2023 are now firmly in view. At Luminate we’re hard at work finalizing our 2023 Year End Music Report for publication on Wednesday, 1/10/24, to share insight and data on these trends. With topics ranging from Global genres to the impact of streaming trends, music at the movies, and more, we can’t wait to share how the data shaped up in 2023. RSVP here for the livestream webinar at 10amPT/1pmET on Wednesday, 1/10/24.
As today’s Tuesday Takeaway marks our final installment of the year, we wanted to share an update on the fastest growing core genres in the US through week 49 (chart week ending 12/7/23). As it stands, the core genres of Country, World Music (which includes K-Pop, Afrobeats, J-Pop and more) and Latin have risen above the rest in terms of year-over-year On-Demand Audio (ODA) streaming growth. Considering that overall ODA streaming in the US currently shows a 12.8% increase through this time last year, each of these genres came within striking distance of doubling the growth rate of the industry.
Additionally, Country, World Music and Latin have combined for 222.6B total ODA streams so far this year, or just under 1 in every 5 US ODA streams as they have amassed 19% of the industry total through week 49.
This marks the last Tuesday Takeaway of the year. Thank you for reading and we’ll see you on Tuesday, January 2, 2024!
