The week in physical (Week 41)

Week 41 Physical Performance: 2026 vs. 2025

Total U.S. physical music sales reached 1.52 million units in Week 41 (ending Oct. 15, 2026), compared with 1.75 million in the same week of 2025, driven by 880,200 vinyl album sales and 627,800 CD albums. Modeled sales across independent record stores totaled 454,104 units in Week 41 versus 650,622 units in the same tracking week of 2025. The year-over-year variance reflects a tough historical baseline created by the second-week market surge of Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl release in October 2025, coming just one week after the record-breaking 3 million-plus physical album sales for The Life of a Showgirl in its release week.
