Luminate, Billboard’s longtime official Charts partner, will track streaming and sales metrics from TME platforms, including QQ Music, Kugou Music, Kuwo Music, and JOOX, through the TME Chart
LOS ANGELES, CA – NOVEMBER 5, 2025 – Today, Luminate, the entertainment industry’s most trusted and essential data partner, and TME Chart, the authoritative music chart under Tencent Music Entertainment Group (TME), announced a new global data partnership. The landmark agreement, Luminate’s first data collaboration with a chart measuring music engagement within China, allows the integration of streaming and sales consumption metrics from TME platforms, including QQ Music, Kugou Music, Kuwo Music, and JOOX, into Luminate’s industry-leading music data platform CONNECT. The new partnership provides international visibility into China’s music market, addressing a long-standing gap in global representation. The data will be reflected in CONNECT’s global streaming and sales in the coming weeks.
As Billboard’s longstanding, official Charts partner, Luminate will incorporate data from TME in its weekly analysis and ranking used for the publication of Billboard Global Charts. The official start date for TME data incorporation in the Charts will be announced at a later date. This will mark the first time that activity from the Chinese market will be measured and reflected in the Chart.
Since 2022, Luminate has continued to expand its global coverage of the music industry with the introduction of new country-level data for a myriad of markets. The company now tracks data for over 60 different countries, with recent additions from the Middle East, North and Sub Saharan Africa and now China. In recent years, Luminate has published widely-cited insights surrounding the export power of native musical genres from Asian markets – most notably K-Pop and J-Pop from Korea and Japan, respectively. Through this partnership, the company expands its capabilities in this research, identifying the cross-market appeal of music content, genres and artists originating in and native to China.
Speaking on the announcement, Luminate CEO Rob Jonas shared, “This partnership marks a pivotal moment for the global music industry, underscoring Luminate’s unwavering commitment to providing the most accurate and comprehensive measurement of music activity worldwide. As the industry’s most trusted source of streaming and sales data, our customers and partners expect as much information as possible to make the best business decisions, and we know how valuable it is for a market as large and influential as China to be represented in those insights.”
TC Pan, Group Vice President of TME and President of the Content Cooperation Department, said, “This collaboration with Luminate represents a data-driven effort to establish a unified global content ecosystem. China is one of the most dynamic music markets in the world, and through this partnership, all content on TME’s platforms — whether domestic or international — will participate in, and even help shape, global music trends. Moving forward, TME will continue to strengthen its content ecosystem, enabling more quality content to be discovered worldwide, realizing long-term value through a journey from ‘data connectivity’ to ‘ecosystem synergy.’”
Ryan Liang, Vice President of Corporate Development and Content Ecosystem at TME, added, “Our partnership with Luminate marks TME Chart as Billboard’s first in-depth data partner in China, which demonstrates that its objectivity and professionalism have gained recognition from international authorities. We see this partnership as an opportunity to further strengthen the TME Chart’s role as a bridge connecting Chinese music with the global market. By integrating China’s music data into the global chart ecosystem, we are dedicated to delivering Chinese music to a broader audience and enhancing its international recognition.”
In 2023, UNI Chart became the first and only music chart from Chinese Mainland featured on Billboard’s official website, bridging a long-standing gap in Mandarin music representation on the global stage. Looking ahead, TME Chart and Luminate’s partnership will continue to strengthen both companies’ role in this bridge between the Chinese music market and global audiences, showcasing quality music and helping Chinese artists gain broader international recognition.
