This week, Luminate casts a spotlight on Netflix’s The Irishman, a Martin Scorsese film from 2019 that has recently re-entered the Luminate Top 50 Movies chart. Since Streaming Viewership (M) began recording data in 2022, the film has consistently had strong viewership. At the end of this past February, the film was averaging between 6,000 and 8,000 viewers per day. Between March 8 and March 9, daily engagement with the film netted around 30,000 unique views. This is a nearly 275% increase in total viewership since the beginning of the month.

'The Irishman', Daily Viewership (2025)

One obvious factor fueling this spike is that The Irishman leading man Robert De Niro also stars in the new Netflix original series Zero Day, which was released on February 20, 2025. Between this release and the St. Patrick’s Day holiday in mid-March, a perfect opportunity was presented for Netflix to push for viewership of the 2019 Scorsese film. And the strategy seemed to pay off, as The Irishman jumped to No. 24 on the Luminate Top 50 Movies Chart last week, making it the oldest movie to appear that week. Luck of the Irish? Or, more likely, a film that is finally getting its due with audiences.
