Luminate’s 2024 Midyear Music Report, released last week, revealed Latin music as the fastest-growing genre in the U.S. when ranking by share point change, comparing the first half of 2024 with the first half of 2023. Latin music leads all U.S. core genres in On-Demand Audio (ODA) streaming growth with +0.51 share points in the first half of 2024, powered by a +15.1% growth in ODA streaming volume. One of the biggest drivers of that growth is the rise of Regional Mexican, which is now the largest Latin subgenre in the U.S.
Four Latin artists earned more than 100M U.S. ODA streams through the first half of 2024 and, outside of Bad Bunny, who is the No. 1-streaming Latin music artist overall, those other three were Regional Mexican artists: Peso Pluma, Fuerza Regida and Junior H. The continued growth of Latin music and Regional Mexican will be key trends to watch throughout the rest of 2024 as consumer listening patterns continue to evolve.
