With May marking Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage (AAPI) Month in the U.S., we’re celebrating the achievements of Thailand’s own LISA.
Best known as a member of K-pop sensation BLACKPINK, LISA successfully launched a new phase of her career in February with the release of her first solo album, Alter Ego. That same month, she made her acting debut with a prominent role on Season 3 of HBO’s The White Lotus.
The chart below shows the weekly trend of LISA’s U.S. On-Demand Audio (ODA) streams alongside minutes watched for White Lotus on streaming service Max. Her ODA streams surged the week of March 6, driven by the release of Alter Ego and high-profile moments including her James Bond medley performance at the Academy Awards on March 2.
LISA’s stream volume perked up again with her April 11 performance at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, showing she’s making all the right moves to increase her popularity in the States.
And the numbers are proof positive that strategy is working: The percentage of LISA’s Total Global On-Demand streaming volume (Audio + Video) that comes from the U.S. over the past 12 weeks was 13.1%¹, nearly double her share there from the same period last year. That’s a close second only to the 16.2% of her Total Global streams that emanate from her native Thailand.
According to Luminate Insights’ Artist + Genre Tracker, which gauges how deeply performers are resonating in the marketplace, 73% of LISA fans would tune in to a TV show if she were to perform —highlighting the deep connection she has with her audience. That fan enthusiasm likely contributed to the strong viewership for White Lotus.
With the show’s Season 3 premiere, searches for Thailand’s Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui — where the series was filmed—jumped by over 65%.² And LISA’s fans? They’re significantly more likely to plan a vacation in the next three months compared with the average music listener.
Luminate Index, which measures artists’ consumer acceptance across five key dimensions, indicates LISA is poised for significant growth. While the awareness level for her in the U.S. market was a relatively modest 9% in 2024, her social media presence in particular has her well positioned for stardom; she already has nearly 50 million more Instagram followers than BLACKPINK. Check in with the index later this summer to see how all of LISA’s Q1 activity has increased her visibility.
