The ‘Love Island’ Audience Won’t Stop Growing

In a TV landscape where even massive successes are often shedding viewers from season to season, Peacock’s megahit Love Island USA has defied these trends. After its 2024 and 2025 seasons experienced explosive year-over-year surges in engagement, this year’s edition showed the series still had room to grow.

In its first seven weeks of release (covering the week of the season premiere through that of the finale), the latest season (S8) was streamed for almost 5.5 billion minutes — 2 billion (or 17%) more than its predecessor in the same timeframe, according to Luminate Streaming Viewership (M).

This translates to 15% growth in estimated U.S. full-season views (total minutes streamed divided by total season runtime) and 44% growth in total estimated views (weekly estimated views summed to account for weekly differences in total episode runtime) — 5.5 million vs. 4.8 million, and 15.1 million vs. 10.5 million, respectively.

That’s a solid yearly increase, but as mentioned above, it’s even more impressive that the Love Island audience is still growing considering the series more than doubled its engagement time in both 2024 and 2025.

The show’s breakout sixth season in 2024, in fact, grew its premiere-to-finale-week minutes streamed by more than 250% versus S5, and 2025’s S7 climbed another 175%, fueled by strong word of mouth and social media buzz.

With those statistics in mind, S8’s mere double-digit growth looks almost underwhelming, but Love Island producers should be grateful there were somehow still more viewers to lure to the villa.

Those producers may have FIFA to thank for that: It’s evident that Peacock’s much-watched streaming coverage of the 2026 World Cup (via Telemundo) brought fresh eyes to the platform and funneled new viewers to Love Island. A press release reported more than 30% of S8 viewers were new to the franchise, and “nearly one-third of those [came] in first to watch sports.”

In turn, Love Island generated its own halo effect, pushing viewers to other Peacock originals as well. The streamer recorded more than 13 billion minutes streamed for its original content in both June and July, after averaging just 5.8 billion in the first five months of the year. One key beneficiary: limited series The Five-Star Weekend, which debuted three days before Love Island’s S8 finale and is now among the 15 most streamed Peacock original TV seasons ever measured by SV(M).

It will likely be extremely difficult for Love Island to repeat this phenomenon again next season, and it would not be at all surprising to see the show’s viewership dip in 2027. But for a streamer that long struggled to find its breakout moment, Love is indeed a many-splendored thing.
